Frequently Asked Questions
Who is eligible to play?
Students grade 4th through 12th who live within the district boundaries of Ft. Zumwalt South High School (not the entire school district, just students who will attend FZSHS) and are currently attending school in the FZ school district.
If you go to private school or your high school does not have a team, you would have to register on MOIHA’s website as a pool player and we can put in a request for you.
How are the teams formed?
Rosters are determined after an evaluation process and placed on a team that most aligns to their current skill set.
When does the season start?
The season starts with Tour Breakout tournament the first half of March. Regular season starts mid-March with playoffs taking place in mid-May.
Is inline hockey experience required?
No, but you do need to be able to maneuver on skates. We would not recommend this as your introduction to inline skating and/ or your first experience to inline hockey. Players with previous learn-to-play or team experience in either ice hockey or inline hockey typically adjust fine after 3-4 games.
What equipment is needed for inline vs ice hockey?
Most of the equipment between inline and ice hockey is the same with a few exceptions:
- Inline hockey skates have a chassis and wheels with indoor (softer) wheels instead of an ice skate with a blade and blade holder.
- Rather than 'hockey pants' and socks, players wear inline pants. These must be black with minimal white on them. No other colors may be worn.
- For padding on the hips, we recommend an inline girdle but many players opt to not wear them.
- Players do not wear ice hockey shoulder pads. Many don't wear any shoulder protection, but we do recommend a padded shirt.
Other equipment needed:
- Helmets must have full cage or face shield, ear pieces and chin strap with NO alterations. Helmet must remain snapped at all times on the skating surface.
- Elbow pads, shin pads, hockey gloves and an athletic protector/ cup are mandatory.
- Mouthpieces are encouraged but not mandatory.
